Put Yourself in History

I chose Selena because she is a role model of mine. She is my inspiration to set my heart to everything I do and never give up. I grew up listening to Selena’s songs and watching the movie about her life. To me, she was the very definition of a confident, smart, passionate, and strong woman. I aspire to have confidence, strength, and passion like that. She, like me, was a Mexican American woman who had big dreams and I feel like I can really relate to her. She was just a really inspirational person and I love her and her music.

Fill Flash Outside

Fill flash is a photography technique that uses a flash to fill the darker shadows of a subject in a photo. It prevents the subject from being too dark while the background is perfectly exposed. You should use fill flash in situations when there is more light behind the subject rather than on the subject and when there is an unwanted shadow on the subject. In portraits, fill flash helps get rid of the unwanted shadows, but you have to make sure the light still looks natural. You want the background to be perfectly exposed and the subject to be slightly underexposed so your flash doesn’t make the subject too bright. Fill flash can also be useful in macro and landscape photography.

National Geographic Magazine Cover Review

I like this cover because it is monumental in the history of space and the United States. The detail of the photo itself is remarkable.
I like this cover because while it is simple, there is a lot of detail in the photo. The photo also has great impact and it is historically monumental. The bones were very important to the understanding of what happened in the areas surrounding Mt. Vesuvius.
I like this cover because it is impactful. It truly captures the relationship between Jane Goodall and the chimpanzee.

Painting With Light

I chose this photo because the lights create a sunset around the woman. It stands out against the dark background of the water and the city. The light makes it look as if it is a shawl or a cape that she is twirling or dancing with. The light adds a heavenly and divine aesthetic to the picture. The woman herself looks ethereal surrounded by a bright light with beautiful scenery. I think the photographer was extremely successful in capturing the light in such a magnificent way. It caught my eye immediately because it reminded me of the halos saints have around their heads in paintings. It also reminds me of the goddess Aphrodite, as she was born from the ocean and is often depicted in a very similar way. This photo looks like it played on these ideas.

Silhouette Photography Read & Write

The purpose of silhouette photography is to add glamour, drama, and excitement into regular pictures. Silhouette photography only concerns the form of the person or the subject. Silhouette photography is defined as a picture with a black shape that stands out against a brightly lit background. Although simple, silhouette photography is extremely technical and relies on deviating from the rules of taking a well-lit picture. Early morning and late afternoon are perfect times of the day to attempt silhouette photography when not in a studio. It is important to keep in mind that only the form of the subject will be seen and not the appearance. A silhouette must have a background that is not distracting. The subject must also be recognizable as it will be dark and otherwise hard to distinguish. The most important rule of this type of photography is to expose the background and not the subject. Cameras should also be on manual in order to avoid the camera compensating for the bright background and dark subject.

Cultural Identity Photographs

These pictures represent my culture because my family is a big part of who I am. I put my family before everything and they are the reason I am the person that I am today. I am Mexican and I absolutely love the food in my culture, it’s spicy and it’s homey. This picture above is of sopes and it’s one of my favorites. I love animals and the picture in the middle is of my cat, Bella. She is almost 10 years old and has been with me for as long as I can remember.

Cultural Identity Read & Write

Cultural photography is a type of photography that focuses on what people do and what people are passionate about. Culture can be anything and everything that makes a person who they are. The article mentions that someone’s culture could be anything. It is not just religious or ethnic, but anything that someone likes to do. The author says that culture is a representation of a full approach to understanding the world around you. He defines it as something that people do often, that they are passionate about or interested in.

I found the author’s approach to what culture is very interesting. I think that it is very important to understand that culture is not just tradition, religion, our ethnicity, and where we come from. Culture is found everywhere, in everything that is popular, in everything that we love to do. Music, photography, painting, cooking, baking, this is all a part of culture. Anything that defines who we are as a person, makes up our own personal culture.
